Expected to create more than 100 jobs in its first year, the facility will provide comprehensive services covering all stages of film production, from pre-production to post-production.
Oman’s Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Youth has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art ‘Film City’ in Khazaen, Barka, with an estimated investment of OMR 12m ($31.2m). This initiative aims to enhance the country’s entertainment industry, according to a report by Oman Daily Observer.
The planned Film City is designed to be a premier regional hub for film production, providing comprehensive services from pre-production to post-production. This project will position Oman as a key player in the regional entertainment sector.
Nader Al Rawahy, a representative from the Oman Vision 2040 follow-up unit, highlighted that the Film City is expected to create over 100 job opportunities for Omani citizens. He emphasised the project’s potential to transform the local film industry and attract international productions, fostering a dynamic cultural ecosystem in Oman.
The establishment of the Film City is part of a broader government strategy to invest in and empower Oman’s cultural sector. The government is also finalising eight additional projects with a total investment value of $49m.
Aisha bint Mohammed Al Saifi, deputy head of the National Programme for Investment and Export Development, underscored the importance of supporting the creative industries to help them thrive independently. She noted that these industries hold great potential and that the programme is currently working on developing larger-scale projects and investment opportunities within the sector.
