Data contributions from ORBCOMM and TÜRKSAT will enable the SDA to increase the supply of reliable and usable information to satellite operators across the globe
The Space Data Association (SDA) has further increased its membership, with ORBCOMM Inc. and TÜRKSAT being the latest satellite operators to join. This follows an announcement earlier this year when Telenor Satellite Broadcasting joined the SDA.
The SDA is an international non-profit association of satellite operators that supports the controlled, reliable and efficient sharing of space environment and RF spectrum data. Its membership is comprised of many of the worlds major satellite communications companies.
As well as benefiting from the SDAs space environment data and connections to other members, data contributions from ORBCOMM and TÜRKSAT will enable the SDA to increase the supply of reliable and usable information to satellite operators across the globe.
ORBCOMM is a leading global provider of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions and the only commercial satellite network dedicated to M2M.
TÜRKSAT provides broadcasting, data communication, teleport, cable TV, cable internet, e-Government IT services. It operates satellites over Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
ORBCOMM is pleased to become an active participant in the SDA membership, and we look forward to supporting worldwide initiatives to further improve safety and responsible satellite communications and operations, said John Stolte, ORBCOMMs Executive Vice President of Technology and Operations.
We have been using the automated reporting functionality of the system since the membership began. All the information and analysis provided by the SDA to its members is absolutely crucial to ensuring a safe and reliable space environment, especially as the space is becoming more and more crowded, commented Dr. Senol Gulgonul, Vice President of Satellite Operations at TÜRKSAT. Joining the SDA was important for us to enable both the safety of our own fleet, as well as contributing to a better space environment for all.
Members of the SDA receive reliable and immediate access to information that improves operations for conjunction assessment, RF interference, and geolocation support, as well as providing authoritative contact information for a given space object.
We are pleased to welcome these two new members to the SDA, commented Mark Rawlins, Chairman, Space Data Association. When it comes to providing vital data, it is clear that the more participants we have feeding into that, the more accurate we can be. We look forward to continued growth over the coming months.
