The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that qualification matches for the ICC World Cup will be broadcast live for the first time.
OSN will broadcast the tournament in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), while Super Sport is the exclusive broadcaster in sub-Saharan Africa.
Ten games from the 2018 ICC World Cup Qualifier tournament will be televised live by Star Sports, the ICCs India-based global media rights partner, and the global governing bodys other international media partners in 200 territories across five continents.
The coverage will be complemented by six minutes per hour of near-live match content which will be supplied by the ICCs digital clip partners across 180 countries.
The move builds on the coverage of the 2014 ICC World Cup Qualifier, when only four matches were live streamed. The ICC said that the decision was taken to enhance its long-term partnerships with various broadcasters and to broaden the reach of its World Cup qualifying games.
This years ICC World Cup Qualifier takes place between 4 and 25 March in Zimbabwe, who will be joined by the West Indies, Afghanistan, Ireland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates, with two teams set to progress to next years ten-team Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.
Speaking on the broadcast reach and coverage of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifer, Aarti Dabas, Head of Media Rights, Broadcast and Digital, said: For the first time ever we are broadcasting 10 matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, this a huge step forward in our ambition to getting cricket to more fans across the world.
With two places in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at stake, the ICC in partnership with its official broadcast and digital partners and on its own digital platforms are providing significant coverage of the event in Zimbabwe. In a number of firsts for coverage across the tournament, the ICC will provide on-demand clips and fans will have access to follow the event on any platform on broadcast and digital.
