Crunchyroll has three million subscribers globally and more than 70m registered users.
Sony is reportedly in talks to acquire anime streaming service Crunchyroll from AT&T’s WarnerMedia for an estimated 1.5bn.
The potential deal would strengthen Sony’s position in the anime streaming market as it already owns Crunchyroll competitor Funimation.
In July, Crunchyroll announced it had hit a milestone of three million subscribers globally and more than 70m registered users.
For WarnerMedia parent company AT&T, a $1.5bn sale of Crunchyroll would help the company meet its goal of $10bn in asset sales for this year.
Currently, Crunchyroll features more than 1,000 titles and 30,000 episodes, which it claims represents the world’s largest anime library.
