Pay-TV subscriptions across the Middle East and Africa rose by 23.5% from the 15.3 m to 18.9 m between September 2012 and 2013, according to Dataxis.
While the Middle East witnessed a growth of 17%, in the Africa there were 13.4 m subscribers showing a rise of 26.4% from the third quarter of 2012.
Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite platforms attracted the majority of the Middle East and Africas pay-TV subscribers, with a total base of 12.6 million in Q3 2012, while 3.2 million customers now subscribe to pay digital terrestrial television (DTT) services in the region. Cable accounted for 1.5 million subscribers, while 1.2 million people now access IPTV services. A further 430,000 users received services via MMDS.
