Pebble Beach Systems has confirmed that its first Stingray channel-in-a-box solution has been ordered by broadcaster, Iraq24. The broadcaster is relocating its production and playout operation from Jordan to a new purpose-built facility in Baghdad, and has selected Stingray to deliver a fully redundant HD ingest and playout solution for its launch this spring.
Speaking about the order, Fuad Al-Rubaiy, Managing Director of Future Art Broadcast Trading LLC said: We looked at a number of options across the price spectrum to meet Iraq24s needs, but Stingrays small footprint, and its ability to be deployed very quickly, made it the ideal solution for this fast turnaround project. Pebbles recent successes and track record of deploying integrated channel device installations in the region were also a major factor.
Pebble has supplied a number of systems to Iraqi broadcasters from other territories, but this will be the first to be installed in Iraq. The vendor has already taken a number of channel-in-a-box installations on air in the region this year, including at 218, Nojoum FM and Quest Arabia (Image Nation) and Dijlah who went on air at the end of February broadcasting into Iraq from their Jordan base.
The Stingray solution leverages the flexibility and functionality of Pebbles Marina enterprise automation, and the power and robustness of its Dolphin integrated channel device. This means that, in addition to hosting simple clip-based channels, Stingray is also capable of handling more complex, reactive channels which regularly feature late-breaking changes. The rich feature set incorporates encode and decode, up and down conversion, graphics, DVE, ARC, subtitling, voice-over and optional Dolby encode and decode. For ingest, file format and compression ratios can be selected on a per job basis, and clips can be trimmed and segmented even while the ingest is in progress. Operators are able to view playout and ingest processes using an IP monitoring window directly within the Stingray UI.
