Alarab, a 24-hour news channel based out of Bahrain, is set to launch by the end of the year. The news channel will target Arabic-speaking viewers across the Arab world and beyond. The news about the channels launch has been circulating in the broadcast arena since last year.
The news channel was first announced by Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud in 2011 as an independent venture from Kingdom Holding Company and Rotana Group. It is expected to compete with Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya and Sky News Arabia.
The channel’s launch was announced by Prince Alwaleed after he visited the headquarters of the news channel at Bahrain World Trade Centre to oversee the progress of the channel. He met with Alarab management led by Fahad Alsukait, CEO of Alarab and Rotana Group, and Jamal Khashoggi, General Manager of Alarab news channel.
Systems integrator Qvest Media has designed and built the complete production and broadcasting infrastructure for Alarab news channel.
The SI is to provide end-to-end file-based workflows, a high level of automation for all production processes, a centralised media asset management system across all areas of production, as well as HDTV distribution for satellite and multi-platform live streaming and VOD for the news channel.
Alarab news channel announced a multi-year deal with Riyadh-based media company, DurAlpha Group, earlier this year. The channel has also signed a partnership agreement with Bloomberg to support the creation of five hours of financial and economic news programming throughout the day.
The channel recently, announced the appointment of a number of well-known broadcast journalists from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and other neighbouring countries to join its news programing team. The appointment of Weam Abdulaziz Al Dakheel, Abdulla Al Muslimani, Noor Al Sheikh, and Abdulla Al Sabaie are part of the channels commitment to offering a new generation of talented Arab journalists, technicians and production staff a platform to shine.
