Lebanese British actress Razane Jammal has marked her debut as a leading actress in Egyptian and Arab cinema, starring alongside Mohamed Ramadan in the epic historical film, Black Lion, directed by Mohamed Diab, known for his work on the upcoming Moon Knight series.
Black Lion, scripted by the trio Mohamed Diab, Khaled Diab, and Sherine Diab, boasts a star-studded cast, including Majed El-Kedwany, Khaled Al-Sawy, Sherif Salama, and Ahmed Abdel Hamid.
Jammal has been widely praised for her previous roles, notably in Marwan Hamed’s blockbuster movie Kira & El Gin, where she starred alongside Karim Abdel-Aziz, Ahmed Ezz, and Hend Sabry. Her performance earned her the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Award at the 49th Film Society Festival.
In her recent endeavours, Razane Jammal has showcased her talent in the Shahid original drama Al Thaman, featuring Bassel Khaiat, which garnered the highest viewership in the Arab world upon its release. She also made a notable guest appearance in Menna Shalaby’s Ramadan 2023 drama, Taghyer Gaw.
Notably, Jammal has become the sole Arab star to join the DC comics universe, featuring in Netflix’s hit adaptation of The Sandman, ranking among the top ten most-watched shows on Netflix in 2022.
Prior to her success in Arab cinema, Jammal carved a niche for herself in the international film industry with diverse roles in French, British, and American projects. Three of her films participated in the Cannes Film Festival, including Cruel Summer (2012) by Kanye West, Une Histoire De Fou (2014) by Robert Guediguian, and Carlos (2010) by Olivier Assayas, which received a Golden Globe in 2011.
