'All That’s Left of You' is a historical drama chronicling the story of one family over three generations and examining the passage of trauma to each.
The Red Sea Film Foundation-supported feature All That’s Left of You, written and directed by Palestinian American filmmaker Cherien Dabis, is set to make its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, running from January 18 to 28, 2025.
The film tells the interwoven story of three generations of a Palestinian family, chronicling 75 years of history marked by displacement, occupation and resilience. Beginning with the 1948 forced exile from Jaffa, the narrative delves into cycles of trauma, violence and heartbreak, culminating in the present-day struggles of life in the West Bank.
According to the synopsis, the story pivots around a Palestinian teenager who confronts Israeli soldiers during a West Bank protest. His mother reflects on the events that shaped his journey, tracing their roots to his grandfather’s forced displacement decades earlier.
This marks Dabis’s third feature film, following Amreeka (2009) and May in the Summer (2013), both of which also premiered at Sundance. The film features Dabis, Saleh Bakri, Adam Bakri, Mohammad Bakri, Maria Zreik and Muhammad Abed Elrahman.
All That’s Left of You will have six screenings during the Sundance Film Festival on January 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, and February 1.
