Red Sea Film Festival Foundation has announced 33 recipients of the Red Sea Fund’s 2023 development funding cycles.
The fund’s development cycle is designed to bolster creative visions by extending financial backing to bold and innovative projects, encompassing a range of formats from live-action to animation. Emphasising the development of projects from initial treatments to fully polished screenplays ready for production, the Red Sea Fund remains steadfast in its dedication to empowering filmmakers and translating their narratives into compelling cinematic experiences.
The 33 new projects, currently in the development phase, encompass a wide range of genres and narratives, showcasing the diverse storytelling potential not just within Saudi Arabia, but also throughout the broader region.
Red Sea Fund has funded 60 projects in the development stage since its inception, including 37 projects in 2021 and 23 projects in 2022, with an emphasis on supporting diverse voices and perspectives from around the world.
Encompassing thought-provoking dramas, captivating documentaries, and enchanting animated features, the projects supported by the fund aim to contribute to the cultural fabric and international understanding of Saudi Arabia, the Arab region, and Africa.
The fund will offer financial support, mentorship, and additional resources to emerging filmmakers.
The third Red Sea International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 9.
