Red Sea Labs, a renowned incubator for creative talent, has officially opened submissions for its fifth edition of the film residency programme. Designed to nurture the artistic and professional growth of teams comprising Saudi, Arab, Asian, and African filmmakers and producers, this immersive programme is set to propel selected projects from ideation to realisation, providing a platform for emerging talents.
In collaboration with the TorinoFilmLab, the Lodge extends an opportunity for ambitious filmmakers poised on the brink of their breakthrough. The programme selects projects for comprehensive creative and professional mentorship, development, and exposure to transformative industry opportunities.
Filmmakers aspiring to be part of this residency programme can submit their projects by January 7, 2024.
In 2024, the Lodge is set to expand its programme over 10 months, featuring five workshops. The first workshop exclusively caters to selected Saudi teams, while the subsequent four are open to all chosen projects. This extended duration aims to provide a comprehensive understanding and solid foundation for exploring the full dramatic and production potentials of each project. Participants will benefit from mentoring by a Head of Studies and a Head of Script Development, guided by international specialists covering various facets of cinema and the industry.
The residency programme encompasses ongoing script development sessions, a dedicated producer coaching programme, and professional development across artistic aspects, production, financing, sales, and marketing. Participants will engage with internationally experienced experts in directing, cinematography, editing, sound, post-production, sales, and more during the workshops.
Following the development phase and meetings with industry professionals, the culmination of the programme will take place at the Red Sea Souk during the fourth Red Sea International Film Festival. Winners will be announced, and a total of $200,000 in award money will be distributed based on merit, marking a significant step towards recognising and supporting emerging talents in the global film landscape.
