Smartphone with holographic display, priced between USD 1200-1600, will allow end users to view 2D and 3D VR as well as AR without special glasses.
RED founder Jim Jannard has announced that it will launch HYDROGEN ONE, a new 5.7″ Android smartphone with a full holographic display that will enable us to view 2D, 3D virtual and augmented reality without special glasses.
A press statement from RED called it the worlds first holographic media machine in your pocket and added this would forever change the future of personal communication, information gathering, holographic multiview, 2D, 3D, AR/VR/MR, and image capture.
The phone is built around the Hydrogen Holographic display, which uses nanotechnology to display content in the new proprietary H4V 4-view format, and is also backward-compatible with 2D and stereo 3D content, along with VR.
The smartphone will also work with REDs Scarlet, EPIC, and Weapon cameras as a high-quality monitor and remote control.
A new H3O audio algorithm also promises to create the effect of 5.1 surround sound through a users headphones.
High-quality photo, video, and holographic capture will come as future modules, and are not included in the launch device.
