In Los Angeles on October 18, Riedel will receive the 2023 Technology and Engineering Emmy Award.
Riedel Communications has earned recognition as a recipient of the Television Academy’s 75th Engineering, Science, and Technology Emmy Awards. The distinguished accolade was conferred upon Riedel’s Bolero ADR (Advanced DECT Receiver) wireless intercom system, acknowledging its profound contributions to television production. Introduced in 2017, Bolero has been adopted in numerous productions, often ushering in novel workflows and applications.
Among the 25 awardees celebrated across more than 10 categories by the Television Academy this year, Riedel’s founder, owner, and Group CEO, Thomas Riedel; VP of product development, Jake Dodson; and product managers Wolfgang Fritz and Jiou-Pahn Lee stood out for their contributions.
Speaking about the achievement, Thomas Riedel said: “We have been in the sports, broadcast, and entertainment business for a long time, and we saw a need to build a better wireless intercom: Bolero. Bolero became a global standard in its field in an impressively short time, exceeding even our own expectations, and it is our most successful product to date. We owe this achievement to the talented experts on our team who blend business and technology expertise seamlessly. This award is an incredible recognition of their hard work across research, design, and innovation, which led to the development of this game-changing technology. This Emmy Award cements Riedel’s position as a forward-looking leader in professional audio, video, data, and intercom technology, and it underscores our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that enable our customers to produce better events and tell better stories.”
Riedel’s Bolero system boasts support for up to 250 beltpacks and 100 antennas within a single deployment. With a battery life exceeding 17 hours and the option of standalone operation, negating the need for a base station, Bolero offers better convenience. Features like ADR with multi-diversity and anti-reflection technology for enhanced RF resilience, “Touch&Go” beltpack registration, and versatile functions as a wireless beltpack, wireless keypanel, walkie-talkie, and even featuring Bluetooth support and a built-in bottle opener, Bolero has redefined the wireless intercom landscape.
The Technology and Engineering Emmy Awards recognise living individuals, companies, or scientific/technical organisations for innovations or standardisations that significantly advance engineering technologies, leading to notable impacts on television.
The presentation of the 2023 Technology and Engineering Emmy Award to Riedel is scheduled for October 18 at a ceremony in Los Angeles. This represents Riedel’s fourth Emmy Award in its 30+ years of history, having previously garnered recognition for its contributions to projects like Red Bull Stratos and Red Bull Air Race. Bolero itself had been honoured with the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2019.
