Salam Media Cast is still looking to expand its team to include people with multiple technical skills as it undertakes more projects in the region, Paul Hennessy, CEO of Salam Media Cast told BroadcastPro ME.
We need people who can listen to customers, identify trends in the market and work with new technologies. Very often, this is not a traditional role. Ideally, they would have previously been broadcasters or worked at the cutting edge of social networks and its hard to source people with such skills in the region.
Hennessy explained that Salam Media Cast, which is 20% owned by Qatari conglomerate Salam International and 80% by multi-sector Qatari firm GSSG, is undertaking changes to meet market needs.
The reason for these changes is because the market is changing. In 10 years, the market has gone from SD to HD, from schedule broadcasting to pool technology, from using a single device to multiple devices, and the broadcasters have many challenges too. They now need a partner that is technologically capable of supporting them.
We dont measure ourselves by projects anymore, but by the value we can provide to broadcasters. Today, they want to meet, blog, and want the audience to provide content. Events of 9/11 were a turning point. People used phones to film the attacks and sent it in to broadcasters. The Arab Spring is very similar. Social networks are playing a major role.
Hennessy added that Salam Media Cast is fully committed to its current expansion drive.
We are making investments in people to get the right individuals that understand the technologies. We are aiming to be number one in the market. We want to grow the business and be at the forefront of technology in the Gulf region.
Salam Media Cast presently employs 65 people.
