Astra will launch an unspecified number of Spire's cubesats that provide tracking and weather data under a launch contract.
Small launch vehicle developer Astra Space has named Spire Global as a holder of a launch contract.
Astra said it will begin launching Spire satellites in the spring of 2022 but did not disclose how many satellites or how many launches are covered under the agreement.
Spire operates a constellation of about 100 three-unit CubeSats that collect a variety of data, such as global navigation satellite system radio occultation data used for weather forecasting, ADS-B signals for tracking aircraft and AIS signals for maritime tracking.
Speaking about the contract, Robert Sproles, Senior Director, Constellation Planning and Operations at Spire Global, said: Our platform requires regular and reliable access to space. Astras dedicated launch service will provide the flexibility to deliver our satellites to the specific orbits they require, on our schedule.
Chris Kemp, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Astra, added: Astra was founded with the vision to create a healthier and more connected planet, and we couldnt be more excited to partner with Spire whose mission and values are so closely aligned with our own.
