Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) has announced the successful conclusion of the operational phase of Nexsat-1, Egypts first Earth observation satellite. This satellite developed through a collaboration with the German firm BST marks a significant leap in Egypts space technology capabilities.
Over the last two years, the Nexsat-1 project has been pivotal in enhancing Egyptian expertise in areas such as system engineering, software development, satellite assembly and operational management. The collaboration between the Egyptian team and BST led to the creation of comprehensive onboard software, attitude control algorithms and ground control station (GCS) software, all of which contributed to the successful commissioning and independent operation of the satellite.
Nexsat-1 marks a significant milestone in Egypts space programme, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to innovation, international cooperation and technological advancement. The satellites successful deployment underscores Egypts expanding capabilities in space technology and sets the stage for future developments.
To celebrate this achievement, EgSA has released the first image captured by Nexsat-1s High-Performance Onboard Computer (HPOBC). This image, created using software developed by the Egyptian team, showcases the two years of hard work and collaboration. EgSA extends its gratitude to BST and the Egyptian commissioning team for their vital contributions to this success.
