Ericssons RAN technology is helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency across dus network operations.
Ericsson has joined forces with du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunication Company (EITC), to bolster the sustainability of telecommunication networks and expedite their transition to Net Zero. The partnership aims to achieve this by significantly reducing network energy consumption and carbon emissions.
As a result of this collaboration, du’s 5G network has successfully realised a remarkable 50% reduction in energy consumption. This achievement follows the deployment of Ericsson’s 5G Massive MIMO radios, combined with remote radios, including innovative solutions like tri-sector options such as the dual-band radio and triple-band radio. Advanced functionalities and automation have also been tested, including natively active 5G energy-efficiency features like Micro Sleep Tx, capable of further reducing radio energy consumption by up to 15%.
Du and Ericsson are also collaborating to build a roadmap and deploy the latest technology capabilities of 5G and beyond to provide the UAE with the best customer experience and lowest carbon footprint for a greener future.
This partnership aligns seamlessly with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and du’s commitment to achieving Net Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions within its operations in the UAE by 2030, with Scope 3 targeted by 2050.
