The decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure the wellbeing of all participants given the ongoing threat of the coronavirus pandemic.
The first International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) symposium on small satellites which was scheduled to take place in Africa, from May 11 to 14 has been postponed to May 10-13, 2021.
In an official statement, James Barrington-Brown, Chairman of the organising committee said: “Committed to the health and safety of our participants, speakers, exhibitors and conference employees, the IAA Africa Organising Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the first IAA African Symposium on Small Satellites, which was scheduled to take place from the 11-14th of
May in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
“Speakers will be contacted directly by the IAA Africa conference organisers to discuss next steps regarding abstract submissions. We would like to offer current registrants, sponsors and exhibitors the option of keeping their bookings secured for next year or alternatively requesting a refund.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this postponement may cause … In the interim, we wish you good health and look forward to hosting you in 2021.”
