The image shows a tiny white dot labelled as Mars amidst the black vastness of space.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on Wednesday shared the first image of Mars taken by the Hope Probe spacecraft, three days after the probe took off.
In a tweet, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said: We received the Hope probe’s first sighting of its destination, Mars, after the spacecraft travelled one million km into space. Beyond the sky is where our dreams start.
The UAE Mars Mission was launched on July 20 from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Centre and is expected to get into its orbit around the Red Planet in February 2021, coinciding with UAEs Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The Probe will collect essential data, and provide the first comprehensive and complete picture of the climatic conditions on Mars throughout the year, the atmosphere changes during the day and between seasons of the year, monitoring Mars weather phenomena, temperature changes and climate patterns, in addition to revealing the causes behind surface erosion of the Red Planet.
