Intelsat noted the company is the first multi-orbit satellite in-flight connectivity system with an ESA antenna to be installed at the Embraer factory.
Intelsat has announced a breakthrough partnership with aircraft manufacturer Embraer, introducing high-speed, multi-orbit inflight connectivity as a factory-installed feature on Embraers E2 family of aircraft. Under a newly signed line-fit agreement, Embraer will integrate Intelsats advanced satellite technology during the aircraft production process, ensuring seamless internet access from the moment the planes enter commercial service.
The collaboration makes Intelsat the first inflight connectivity provider to deliver a multi-orbit satellite system with an electronically steered array (ESA) antenna directly installed at the Embraer factory. This cutting-edge system will enable passengers to enjoy fast, reliable and low-latency Wi-Fi suitable for streaming and other high-bandwidth applications replicating the quality of home internet while in the sky.
Rob Baird, Director of OEM Programmes at Intelsat, said: “Intelsat is the first multi-orbit satellite inflight connectivity system with an electronically steered array (ESA) antenna to be installed at the Embraer factory, allowing passengers access to reliable, streaming connectivity starting immediately when aircraft enter revenue service. Passengers on Embraer E2 aircraft will soon benefit from multi-orbit connectivity that will provide the same fast and dependable internet access they enjoy at home, thanks to wide coverage and low latency.”
Through the Buyer-Furnished Equipment (BFE) agreement, airlines purchasing Embraer E2 aircraft will now have the option to receive planes fully equipped with Intelsats ESA system installed, tested, and ready for immediate use upon delivery.
Martyn Holmes, CCO, Embraer Commercial Aviation, added: “At Embraer, we pride ourselves on building the worlds most efficient, reliable, and comfortable single-aisle aircraft, as well as continuously pursuing advancements in technologies that improve aircraft performance and passenger experience. With Intelsats IFC system now line-fit available, we are enabling our airline customers to offer a highly optimized in-flight Wi-Fi experience that will keep them competitive and allow them to delight their passengers.”
