The tests conducted in a rural area near Konya, Turkey, utilised Turkcell's mobile frequencies and Lynk's satellites to provide SMS exchanges and voice calls using commercial cell phones.
Lynk Global has tested its patented direct-to-device (D2D) satellite technology in Türkiye in collaboration with Turkcell, the countrys mobile operator with over 40m subscribers. The testing campaign marks a significant step in Lynks ongoing efforts to enhance mobile network resiliency and coverage across Türkiye, following an agreement between the two companies announced in February 2024.

As Türkiyes leading mobile operator, Turkcell continues to innovate to ensure seamless communication and expanded coverage. In collaboration with Lynk, the company conducted the countrys first field tests of D2D technology, which enables mobile servicesincluding SMS, voice calls and mobile datadirectly to standard mobile phones via low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites.
The tests, carried out in a remote area near Konya, Türkiye, utilised Turkcells mobile frequencies and Lynks satellite network to successfully facilitate SMS exchanges and voice calls on commercial cell phones without the need for specialized devices or additional hardware.
This breakthrough highlights the potential for satellite-enabled mobile coverage to complement existing terrestrial networks, ensuring greater connectivity in rural and underserved areas while also bolstering communication capabilities during emergencies.
