The documentary highlights the wildlife and natural resources in the Kingdom.
The Saudi documentary film Horizon has clinched the Platinum Hermes International Creative Award for 2024 in the Strategic Campaigns Category, triumphing over stiff competition from renowned international works.
Produced by Saudi Arabia’s Konoz Initiative, an initiative of the Government Communication Centre of the Ministry of Media in collaboration with the National Center for Wildlife (NCW), the film offers a glimpse into the kingdom’s wildlife diversity. The film takes viewers on a visual journey through the Kingdom’s varied terrains, from plains and mountains to valleys and vast seas. From the majestic dugong (sea cow) to playful dolphins, the elusive Arabian leopard, and various gazelle species, Horizon showcases Saudi Arabia’s rich biodiversity, boasting over 10,000 species, each intricately adapted to its environment.
Through Horizon, viewers embark on a visual journey across five elements: marine ecosystems, mountains, deserts, humans and nature, and a glimpse into the future to explore the prospects for the Kingdom’s environmental wealth.
As the latest project from the Konoz Initiative, Horizon aims to raise global awareness of Saudi Arabia’s species richness, biodiversity, and distinctive geographical areas.
Filming for the documentary spanned over 200 days, with a specialised crew of 50 individuals traversing more than 4,700 km to capture footage in 28 distinct locations. The project enlisted the expertise of 13 Saudi wildlife experts, underscoring the nation’s commitment to environmental protection as a cornerstone programme and objective of Vision 2030. Wildlife conservation takes precedence, with stringent regulations enforced under the supervision of the NCW to safeguard these precious ecosystems.
The Hermes Creative Awards, which have garnered over 325,000 entries from 135 countries since their inception, recognised Horizon for its exceptional storytelling and visual impact.
