Saudi Film Commission has geared up to take part in the 48th Toronto International Film Festival, set to kick off this week, in an effort to elevate the Kingdom’s burgeoning film industry and promote Saudi Arabia as a global filming destination, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
This strategic move is also aimed at providing support to Saudi films featured at the festival.
Collaborating with various national organisations involved in or with interests related to the film sector, the commission will host a dedicated Saudi pavilion throughout the festival, running from September 7 to 17. Key partners in this endeavour include AlUla Film, Neom, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (also known as Ithra), the Red Sea Film Festival Foundation, and the Saudi Film Festival.
The pavilion’s array of exhibits will include a cinematic showcase spotlighting distinguished Saudi films that have garnered international accolades or achieved significant box-office success.
The Saudi Film Commission’s participation underscores its objective to seize the opportunities presented by TIFF. Through this platform, it aims to shed light on the rapidly expanding Saudi film industry and its notable achievements to date. Additionally, the commission seeks to champion Saudi talents by featuring them on prominent cinematic platforms while creating opportunities to help them develop and grow through effective international partnerships.
Furthermore, the commission emphasised that its presence at the festival aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s commitment to enhancing global cultural exchanges, a strategic goal within the framework of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 development and diversification plan. This endeavour also supports the goal of enhancing Saudi contributions to the realms of art and culture.
