Thirty films will mark their Middle East debut this year, while 11 will have their premiere in the GCC region.
Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF), which will be held at the Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre Sharjah (JRCC) from October 10-15, 2022, has announced the programme lineup.
With the theme of ‘Think Film’, the ninth edition of the six-day event will include panel discussions, workshops, and screening at JRCC. It will also have a programme of film screenings at Vox Cinemas in City Centre Al Zahia, Sharjah and City Centre Mirdif, Dubai.
SIFF will screen 95 films from 43 countries including 28 animations and 16 feature films focused on narratives shaping children’s lives.
As part of the ninth edition of the festival, several titles will premiere for the first time in the Middle East and feature universal stories about childhood, in animation, shorts, features and documentaries.
The hands-on workshops will teach video editing, scriptwriting, filmmaking and a range of other new-age film techniques. In the Experience Station, Entertain Zone, and Explore Studios, attendees will be able to learn from trainers including Nikon and Creative Lab. There will be sessions in both Arabic and English.
Another highlight of the festival will be the screening of six special films in the ‘Green Carpet screening’ these include films in Arabic, Korean as well as English. The Green Carpet screenings – being held for the first time – will be followed by interviews and talks with their filmmakers and actors.
Films screened at the Green Carpet event include The Secret Garden, Croissant, and The Electrical Life of Louis Wain at Vox Cinema Al Zahia, and Farha, The Neighborhood Storyteller, and Paper Flower at Al Jawaher Reception & Convention Centre.
SIFF will host a range of talks with filmmakers and film professionals on issues relating to film genres.
