The National Media Council (NMC) and Sharjah Media Centre have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to begin a strategic cooperation ensuring enhanced integration between governmental bodies in the UAE and Sharjah in particular.
According to the MoU, requests that the Sharjah Media Centre receives for cinematography in Sharjah will be directed to NMC to ensure the contents conformity to the standards issued by the Council.
On its part, the National Media Council will be responsible for reviewing and assessing the content of broadcast and print media and will coordinate with Sharjah Media Centre when required.
As the governmental media and communications arm of Sharjah, Sharjah Media Centre is assigned by the Executive Council of Sharjah to issue permits for aerial and ground photography that takes place in the emirate. This mandate has been issued to help production companies seamlessly acquire media licensing prior to filming in the emirate.
Osama Samra, director of Sharjah Media Centre, said: The agreement with the National Media Council will significantly contribute to elevate the media sector locally, regionally and globally. Furthermore it will highlight the centres role in supporting the media locally through pursuing a strategy which includes the implementation of industry-specific initiatives.
He added that the agreement would also serve to consolidate the status of Sharjah as a promising centre for media and culture.
