Abdel Sayed is known for heralding the age of New Realism in Egyptian cinema.
Organisers of the Sharm El-Sheikh Film Festival have announced that this year’s event will be dedicated to veteran Egyptian film director Daoud Abdel Sayed.
The Egyptian director and screenwriter has made several critically acclaimed films, and has won several international awards notably for The Land of Fear (1999). Abdel Sayed is known for heralding the age of New Realism in Egyptian cinema and will be honoured at the festival’s fourth edition.
Abdel Sayed has previously been a jury member at the eighth Biennale of Arab Cinemas in Paris and is also a member of the Higher Film Festival Commission and the Higher Council of Culture in Egypt. Among his most notable films are The Land of Fear (1999) and Messages from the Sea (2010).
