Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, has given the green light to the comprehensive new strategy and action plan for Dubai Media (formerly Dubai Media Incorporated), in a recent session at the Dubai Design District.
The action plan incorporates a meticulously detailed timeline for the seamless implementation of the strategy, aligned with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The overarching goal is to reinforce the media’s role as a pivotal partner in the nation’s development journey, fostering creativity and expanding strategic partnerships to bolster Dubai’s stature as a hub for industry talent.
Key objectives of the strategy encompass doubling the media sector’s contribution to Dubai’s GDP, attracting increased foreign direct investment, enhancing intellectual property in local media, nurturing media competencies and talent, and elevating the participation of nationals in the sector. The Council also emphasised the imperative to broaden strategic partnerships by facilitating greater involvement from private sector companies, thereby supporting the broader development of the industry within Dubai.
Sheikh Ahmed said: “Guided by the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, we continue to work to raise the creative potential of Dubai’s media sector, ensuring it produces high-quality content and keeps pace with the rapid global changes shaping the industry.”
He stressed the need for further initiatives to solidify Dubai’s status as a global media hub, emphasising the importance of an environment fostering creativity, collaboration, and productivity. Sheikh Ahmed also underscored the significance of strategic partnerships to attract investments, crucial for strengthening the media economy and reinforcing Dubai’s role as a hub for developing and empowering industry talent.
Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, highlighted that the new strategy encompasses 21 projects tracked through 117 key indicators. The goals include upskilling media talent, forging partnerships, attracting foreign investments, developing cutting-edge infrastructure, and adopting the latest technologies. Legislative aspects will also be considered to keep pace with sectoral changes, along with comprehensive reviews of content produced by Dubai Media and the development of e-games.
The meeting also explored ways to enhance the Mohammed Bin Rashid Scholarship for Emirati Media Students, discussing opportunities for internships and expanding partnerships. The objectives of the Dubai Film and TV Commission were also on the agenda.
The meeting witnessed the presence of Board Members of the Dubai Media Council and Nehal Badri, Secretary-General of the Council.
