The Premier League season will provisionally restart on June 17 and Sky viewers in the UK will have the option to watch matches with simulated crowd noises developed in partnership with EA Sports.
The return of Premier League football could see television viewers have the option to switch on artificial crowd noise during matches to simulate the experience of a stadium in the absence of audiences in the current situation. In partnership with EA Sports FIFA, Sky Sports has created a range of bespoke and team-specific crowd noises and chants to the Premier League. Viewers can select the Sky channel to watch with the added sound or with stadium noise.
It comes after the remaining 92 games of the season were given the go-ahead last week, resuming behind closed doors from June 17 with every match to be broadcast live on TV.
Announcing the new feature, Sky Sports Managing Director Robert Webster said: “With live sport on hold for over two months, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how we broadcast in new ways to bring fans together, even if they can’t meet up to watch the match. Sky has always been a leader in innovative sports broadcasting, and we’re excited by this opportunity to share something really special with the whole nation. We want Sky Sports viewers to still feel it all and have the best possible viewing experience – even if they can’t be in the stadiums or watch with their family and friends.”
