Sky News Arabia has recruited 70 full time staff in the past six months, with a further 100 under mobilisation joining shortly, and another 200 people to be recruited by the end of this year.
Speaking about the channel’s progress, director of news Nart Bouran commented: We are very privileged and pleased with the response weve had from media professionals; as of today we have received over 12,000 applications for 370 advertised vacancies.
Sky News Arabia recently appointed Yasser Thabet as director of output, and Pierre Kesserwani as director of newsgathering. Both appointments represent the core editorial team, taking overall responsibility of coordination and coherence across Sky News Arabias multimedia service.
The channel also recently awarded contracts to EVS to supply newsroom Video Server platforms, and a Harris/Omneon solution for the channel’s playout automation requirements. Systems integrator TSL continues to work closely with the engineering team on the construction and commissioning of the broadcast systems infrastructure.
As part of Sky News Arabias commitment to developing local talent, Bouran also announced the launch of a graduate internship programme commencing at the start of the 2012 academic year.
Technical, IT and broadcast infrastructure is now being deployed at the Sky News Arabias main studio which was handed over in June 2011. The channels network of international bureaus will come on-stream by the end of the year in preparation for the channel’s launch.
