Snapchat will also now offer parents visibility into their teens’ safety and privacy settings in the Family Center.
Snap Inc. has announced plans to expand the capabilities of its Family Center, providing parents with advanced tools to enhance online safety measures for their children on the Snapchat platform. Initially introduced in 2022, the Family Center empowers parents to monitor their teenagers’ interactions on Snapchat, manage content controls, and report concerns confidentially.
The upcoming features, set to be rolled out in the coming weeks, will offer parents an extended view into their child’s Snapchat activity. This includes access to their child’s story, contact details, and location settings. For instance, parents will be able to ascertain whether their child has shared a story with all friends or a more selective group. Additionally, they can check if their child has chosen to accept messages exclusively from friends or from all contacts saved on their phone. The new features will also allow parents to monitor whether their child is sharing location data with friends on the Snap Map.
Snap Inc. has announced that it will introduce parental controls for its chatbot, My AI, in the near future. This will allow parents to restrict the chatbot’s responsiveness to requests from their children, offering an additional layer of control over communication within the platform.
Highlighting its commitment to user safety, Snapchat emphasises its collaboration with families and online safety experts in the ongoing development of the Family Center. Regular feedback from users and experts contributes to the continuous enhancement of features aimed at ensuring a secure online environment for young users.
