Softel has launched the publication of a new guide for broadcasters and network operators, identifying the 10 most common subtitling and captioning challenges faced in complex modern workflows.
The guide will examine cost efficiency, video editing synchronisation, file format transcoding, multi-language/multi-channel processing, live subtitling, quality control including web and mobile streaming. It will offer advice on how to deal with each of these challenges and includes a review of recent developments in subtitle and caption processing. It will also summarise information in simple tables featuring challenges and solutions, providing detailed diagrams which present workflow configurations for optimised subtitle and caption processing.
Working with global broadcasters and other various players in the subtitle process ecosystem, Softel has witnessed the emergence of increasingly complex subtitling and captioning issues. Workflows have had to evolve rapidly to answer the exploding demand for IP delivered content and the broadcasters need to reach greater numbers of global viewers. Their complexity has made the integration of subtitle and caption processes a difficult task and, with legislation for content accessibility becoming more stringent across the world, this is set to become a crucial issue.
Speaking about the launch, Sam Pemberton, CEO of Softel said: Every workflow we encounter presents its specific challenges. But there are recurring problems that are linked to a number of key subtitling and captioning processes as we have explained in the guide. The best way to approach these is to use intelligent subtitling and captioning tools that will integrate smoothly in the workflow to efficiently streamline processes.
