'Topo Gigio', originally created by Italian puppeteer Maria Perego in 1959, has been reinvented as a preschool cartoon comedy series.
Banijay Kids & Family has announced that Spacetoon Licensing will represent the Topo Gigio brand for licensing and live shows in the Middle East. As the global distributor for the brand, Banijay Kids & Family oversees Topo Gigio across audiovisual, digital, publishing, licensing and merchandising platforms.
Topo Gigio, originally created by Italian puppet artist Maria Perego in 1959, has been reimagined as a pre-school cartoon comedy series. Co-produced by Movimenti Production (a Banijay Kids & Family company) and Topo Gigio S.r.l., the 2D animated series follows the daily adventures of Topo Gigio, the first mouse to live among humans, as he tackles challenges in the city of Townville alongside his human and animal companions.
Roubina Tchoboian, Head of Global Licensing at Banijay Kids & Family, said: “From its debut 65 years ago to the current animated series, Topo Gigio has garnered a loyal, cross-generational fanbase with significant commercial potential. With Spacetoon Licensing’s expertise, we are excited to expand the brand’s licensing programme in the Middle East and engage audiences through live shows, which are in high demand.”
Banijay Kids & Family, led by Benoît Di Sabatino, is part of Banijay Entertainment, a major content producer. The company’s licensing division amplifies global commercial opportunities for its diverse portfolio, which includes hit franchises like Totally Spies! and comedy classic Mr Bean.
