Filming of the seventh instalment of the Star Wars movie franchise will begin on Tuesday in the Abu Dhabi desert. The location of the shoot has not been revealed to public yet. The crew had already shot some secondary scenes outside the UAE capital, it was reported last month.
The National newspaper reported that the set was close to completion and includes construction of a salt lake, a large tower, a market area and a spacecraft.
The report also claimed two lorries of explosives were delivered to the set to create a large crater blast for a scene rumoured to include the crash landing of a spacecraft.
Last month, Hollywood studio Walt Disney officially confirmed filming of the much-anticipated movie would take place in Abu Dhabi.
The movie, to be released in December 2015, will be the seventh Star Wars picture from Lucasfilm, purchased in 2012 by Disney in a $4.05 billion bet on the franchise created by George Lucas. Lucas is a consultant on the film, Horn said.
Disneys studio chairman emphasised the importance of the faster-growing international box office in approving projects.
