StarTimes Nigeria has launched its budget pay-TV bouquet Nova, for NGN500 per month, ahead of the county’s switch-over to digital broadcasting in June 2015.
The pay-TV service allows subscribers access to over 15 digital TV channels. Eight of these are international channels such as Star Kungfu, Star Music, Hausa channel Star Dadin Kowa, Nollywood channel E-Stars, Child Smile, CCTV-News, TBN and IQRAA, and seven local channels, including NTA News 24, NTA Sports, AIT, Channels TV, Silverbird and NTA Local. Other state TV stations and analogue TV stations such as TVC, MiTV, Super Screen and Galaxy, are also available.
In Nigeria, StarTimes is joint venture collaboration between Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and China’s Star Communication Network Company. Its immediate mandate is to provide digital TV services, using digital terrestrial television (DTT) and direct-to-home (DTH) satellite technology to build a multiple frequency platform.
Chinese-owned pay-TV operator StarTimes currently provides digital TV services in 13 African countries.
