The final BAFTA nominations will be revealed on January 18, 2024.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the results of the initial round of voting spanning all 24 categories for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards. Renowned director Ken Loach’s Syrian refugee drama, The Old Oak, has secured a place on the longlist for Outstanding British Film.
Scripted by Paul Laverty, The Old Oak revolves around the character of TJ (Dave Turner), a pub landlord who develops a poignant friendship with Yara (Ebla Mari), a Syrian refugee. Yara’s family, like many others, becomes part of the fabric of TJ’s overlooked village in the north-east.
As tensions escalate between the existing residents and the newcomers, TJ and Yara embark on a journey to discover common ground, fostering a harmonious coexistence for both communities to flourish.
Starring Dave Turner, Ebla Mari, Trevor Fox, and Joe Armstrong, The Old Oak stands as a collaborative effort between the United Kingdom, France, and Belgium.
The final BAFTA nominations are set to be disclosed on January 18, with the prestigious awards ceremony scheduled for February 18 in London.
