Khalil Dreyfus Zaarour’s documentary The Birds Have Left Beirut is set to screen at the 2023 Babylon International Documentary Film Festival, marking Iraq’s inaugural international documentary film festival.
The festival will have three screenings of The Birds Have Left Beirut. The first screening took place on Wednesday, December 13, at Baghdad’s Green Zone. The second is scheduled for Friday, December 15, at Mosul’s Book Fair at 6 pm, followed by the third on Wednesday, December 20, at the University of Babylon’s Theater at 10 am.
Khalil Dreyfus Zaarour recently clinched the Best Short Documentary Award at the 2023 Bahrain Film Festival, held from October 5 to 9, for his work. Directed and written by Zaarour, The Birds Have Left Beirut delves into the aftermath of a profound event that unfolded on August 4, 2020—a date that shook a nation, transformed a city, and shattered lives. The film provides a poignant perspective on the disaster through the eyes of the protagonist, Zeina.
Starring Rodolphe Zaarour and produced by Paul Thiltges Distributions, The Birds Have Left Beirut premiered at the Cairo International Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in Zaarour’s filmmaking career that began in 2006 with the award-winning short film The Window.
