Faris Alrjoob’s German-Jordanian short film, The Red Sea Makes Me Wanna Cry, is set for its Arab world premiere at the El Gouna Film Festival‘s Short Film Competition. The film, which marks one of the two first-ever Jordanian films to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Quinzaine des Cinéastes Section, will be featured in various screenings throughout the festival, which will run until December 21.
As part of GFF’s Short Film Competition within Short Film Package 3, The Red Sea Makes Me Wanna Cry will host two screenings at Sea Cinema 1. The first screening is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19 at 7 pm, followed by the second screening on Wednesday, December 20 at 8:30 pm.
This romantic thriller unfolds the haunting journey of Ida, who travels to the mysterious location of her partner’s disappearance, yearning to sense his presence one last time and bid him farewell.
The stellar cast includes the talented Jordanian actor Mohamed Nizar, German actress Clara Schwinning, Emmy-nominated American-Palestinian-Kuwaiti journalist-actor Ahmed Shihab Eldin, and veteran actor Anwar Khalil. Produced at the renowned Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, the film received support from Film-und Medienstiftung NRW.
Directed, co-written, and co-produced by Faris Alrjoob, with additional writing contributions from Matthew LaPaglia, and co-producers Luisa Stricker and Luma Al Hamarneh, the short film boasts editing by Benedikt Strick and cinematography by Mahmoud Belakhel. Global sales and distribution are handled by MAD Solutions.
Faris Alrjoob, based in Berlin, is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in film, video art, and performance. A graduate of the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and Emerson College in Boston, Alrjoob continues to make waves in the world of cinema with his compelling storytelling.
