The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced its 2024 Centrepiece programme, presented by Marriott Bonvoy, featuring 43 films from filmmakers representing 41 countries. The lineup includes 18 World Premieres from countries such as Algeria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Nigeria, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and the USA. The Centrepiece programme is dedicated to celebrating global cinematic achievements, offering audiences a chance to engage with a diverse array of contemporary films.
This selection underscores TIFF’s commitment to showcasing international cinema, highlighting acclaimed titles from festivals worldwide, eagerly anticipated premieres from Canadian and international talents, and the latest works from influential filmmakers. The 49th edition of TIFF, presented by Rogers, will run from September 5-15, 2024.
The 2024 Centrepiece lineup has been curated by a team including Jason Anderson, Kelly Boutsalis, Diana Cadavid, Robyn Citizen, Giovanna Fulvi, Nataleah Hunter-Young, June Kim, Dorota Lech, Jason Ryle and Norm Wilner.
Noteworthy World Premieres include Front Row by Algerian director Merzak Allouache, a family-friendly comedy about feuding matriarchs vying for the best beachfront spot; Seven Days from Iranian filmmaker Ali Samadi Ahadi and writer Mohammad Rasoulof, focusing on an Iranian human rights activist on a rare medical leave from prison; Pimpinero: Blood and Oil by Colombian filmmaker Andrés Baiz; and Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof’s The Seed of the Sacred Fig.
Other premieres include Under the Volcano by Polish director Damian Kocur, Sunshine by Filipino filmmaker Antoinette Jadaone, A Missing Part by Belgian director Guillaume Senez and Measures for a Funeral by Canadian filmmaker Sofia Bohdanowicz. Additionally, Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara by American documentary filmmaker Erin Lee Carr, Jane Austen Wrecked My Life by French director Laura Piani and Bound in Heaven by Chinese scriptwriter Huo Xin are among the standout premieres.
