TOD, the sports and entertainment streaming platform in the MENA region, has released viewership insights from the recently concluded Paris Summer Olympics 2024. The data shows that the Opening Ceremony remained one of the most-watched events, even 12 days into the Games.
More than 60% of TOD’s MENA subscribers showed greater engagement with the Olympics compared to the UEFA Euros. Among the region, the UAE led in total viewing time, while Egypt recorded the highest number of unique viewers. These patterns indicate a growing preference for on-the-go sports streaming among MENA sports fans.
The Olympics delivered unforgettable moments across the region, with the most popular events being Football – Men’s matches between France and Egypt, Egypt and Paraguay, Morocco and Spain; the Opening Ceremony; Tennis – Men’s showdown between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz; and Athletics: Men’s & Women’s Finals.
The top sports that garnered the most engagement were Football, Athletics, Tennis, Artistic Gymnastics, Basketball and Handball.
Countries with the highest viewership included Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Bahrain.
MENA audiences accessed the Olympics through a variety of devices, with the most popular being Mobile Phones, Smart TVs, Set-Top Boxes, Desktops, Tablets and Projectors.
