Tunisian filmmaker Aziz Shennawy’s latest film, Forsaken, has made its mark at the Ghent International Short Film Festival in Belgium, running from March 18 to 24.
Forsaken delves into the journey of Meriem, a 30-year-old woman who encounters the lifeless body of a Sub-Saharan African man on her vacation. The film navigates the complexities of discrimination faced by Sub-Saharan immigrants in Tunisia, shedding light on the intricate dynamics between North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Written and directed by Aziz Shennawy, the film features Tunisian superstar Kmar Ben Soltane in a leading role. Cinematographer Hatem Nechi, renowned for his work on Tunisia’s first horror movie, Dachra, captures the film’s essence, while Tarek Marouani produces under the banner of Genuine for Films and Entertainment, with MAD Solutions handling worldwide distribution.
Aziz Shennawy’s dedication to filmmaking shines through his extensive educational background and global acclaim. His previous work, the award-winning short film Korrinty, produced by Hypnos Pictures, earned him international recognition.
Currently, Aziz is gearing up for his debut feature-length film, slated for production in 2024 in collaboration with Genuine for Films and Entertainment.
