The Man Who Sold His Skin, written and directed by Tunisian director and screenwriter Kaouther Ben Hania has won twin awards in the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival.
The film won the Edipo Re Award which is one of the festival’s collateral awards. Syrian actor Yahya Mahayni won the Orizzonti Prize for Best Actor for his role in the film.
The film revolves around Sam Ali, a young sensitive and impulsive Syrian who left his country for Lebanon to escape the war. To be able to travel to Europe and live with the love of his life, he accepts to have his back tattooed by one of the world’s most sulfurous contemporary artist. Turning his own body into a prestigious piece of art, Sam will, however, come to realise that his decision might actually mean anything but freedom.
