The success of 'Simo' and 'Trinou' at the Imedghassen Film Festival underscores MAD Solutions’ commitment to promoting innovative storytelling and nurturing emerging talent within the film industry.
Two films from MAD Solutions’ short film slate, Aziz Zoromba’s Simo and Nejib Kthiri’s Trinou, have clinched awards at the Imedghassen Film Festival in Algeria, held from May 11 to 15.
The awards were announced at the culmination of the festival’s Short Film Competition, with Simo earning the title of Best Scenario and Trinou securing the accolade for Best Editing.
Aziz Zoromba’s Canadian short Simo has gained international recognition, premiering at the Sundance Film Festival and later at the 73rd Berlinale. It has since graced screens at over 25 esteemed film festivals worldwide, amassing a tally of eight awards.
The narrative of Simo delves into the intricate relationship between brothers Simo and Emad, fraught with rivalry and envy. Directed, written, and co-edited by Aziz Zoromba alongside Omar Elhamy, the film features performances by Basel El-Rayes, Seif El-Rayes, and Aladeen Tawfeek.
On the other hand, Nejib Kthiri’s British-Tunisian short Trinou offers a poignant tale centred around Omar, a young boy who seeks solace from his physical challenges by crafting dreams from magazines provided by his mother. The film, directed and written by Nejib Kthiri, has earned accolades including a Special Mention at the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival and a Jury Award for Best Short Arab Film at the Amman International Film Festival.
Trinou features Max Pemberton, alongside Mohamed Grayaa, Kaouther Dhaouedi, and Eleanor Crowe.
Both films exemplify the creative prowess fostered by MAD Solutions, with Trinou being a co-production between Seventh Age Pictures Limited, SVP Tunisia, and London Film & TV. MAD World, a subsidiary of MAD Solutions, oversees the global distribution of Trinou, while MAD Distribution manages the Arab-speaking region distribution of Simo.
