Aspiring Emirati and Arab filmmakers attended exclusive filmmaking workshops in Dubai and Abu Dhabi organised by TROPFEST Arabia. The workshops are part of a regional tour across the Middle East and aim to give participants key hints and tips on making a successful short film for inclusion in the second annual TROPFEST Arabia, which will take place in October this year. The workshops were supported by Emirati filmmaker Ali Mustafa and TROPFEST Arabia 2011 finalists, Sherif Mokbel and Jad Chehyab, who shared their insights and talked to participants about how to create a successful TROPFEST Arabia short film.
During the workshop, Ali Mustafa explained to participants that TROPFEST Arabia encourages young talented individuals from across the MENA region to embrace their creativity.
Each and every one of us is a potential filmmaker, and I would encourage citizens from across the region to take advantage of this opportunity, and create an exciting and inspiring short film.
As well as outlining the short filmmaking process and exposing participants to past submissions, filmmakers were able to learn more about the TROPFEST signature item (TSI). Each TROPFEST submission must contain a specific object, known as the TSI, which this year is 2.
Some films are based around the TSI while others may only have a small or hidden reference to it. The TSI is designed to test the creativity of the filmmakers and to ensure that the entries are made specifically for TROPFEST Arabia 2012.
TROPFEST Arabia is the only short film festival of its kind in the region and will take place in Abu Dhabi, UAE for the second time in October 2012.
