United Broadcast & Media Solutions (UBMS) hosted an ARRI lighting workshop at the United Broadcast Training Academy, on April 7th, 2015.
The workshop was conducted by Dennis Jackstien, a specialist in light technology. A globally renowned lighting engineer, Jackstien has extensive experience of working with ARRI. The key focus of the training session was film and television lighting with a deep view on modern LED technology to provide participants with a practical review of lighting technologies and how they can be better utilised to achieve the desired results.
The free-of- charge workshop boasted a full-house with 18 professionals from productions houses, studios and broadcast entities. Jackstien gave a detailed introduction to the mainstream lighting technologies, especially HMI discharge and LED, and presented the pros and cons of the most used fixture types such as Fresnel, Open face, PARs and ARRIMAX. The workshop also covered Colormetry and Colorquality.
Jackstien covered several pertinent topics related to professional lighting, giving the attendees a comparative analysis of the various lights available today.
The objective of our training session was to educate and inform the users about the latest developments in lighting technology. I explained the features of some of ARRIs flagship products such as the ARRIMAX, to give them an idea of how these lights can improve the quality of images. The session was very interactive with a lot of questions from the audience, commented Jackstien.
The workshop featured theoretical and practical sessions. While the first half of the full day workshop focused on theory of lighting and the future technologies, the second part was a hands-on training for attendees, who had a chance to operate the latest releases from ARRI.
Peter Kyriakos, Head of Marketing at UBMS commented: This is the first time that ARRI is conducting a lighting training workshop in the region and we are very proud to be associated with that. Its a free-of-charge workshop, which we are providing to our customers as an added value service. We were over-booked for this particular session and chose the attendees on a first come first serve basis.
We have attendees from production houses to rental firms as well as broadcasting companies and studios. Some of the attendees have flown in from Qatar and Oman in addition to professionals from the UAE. Our lighting expert Dennis Jackstien especially flew in from Munich to conduct the workshop.
