The series has run for five years and covers stories of emerging and expanding businesses across Africa.
CNN International has appointed Victoria Rubadiri, a prominent Kenyan journalist and anchor, to a pivotal role in its long-standing multiplatform series, Connecting Africa, as well as in the network’s newsgathering operation based in Nairobi.
As Connecting Africa enters its fifth year on CNN International, Rubadiri joins the team dedicated to showcasing the narratives of emerging businesses across the continent and delving into the impacts of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement. The series, including the 30-minute monthly show hosted by CNN anchor and correspondent Eleni Giokos, extends its reach across CNN’s digital and social platforms.
Rubadiri transitions to CNN from Citizen TV, where she served as a senior anchor and reporter at the network’s Nairobi headquarters. Her extensive career also includes notable stints as a radio presenter in Kenya and the United States, where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia. In recognition of her exceptional storytelling prowess, Rubadiri was honoured with the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award in 2020.
Rubadiri said: “I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to work at CNN and to bring my experience and passion to its global audience. Connecting Africa champions the people, projects and companies revolutionising African business and I’m looking forward to working alongside Eleni and the team to get out on the ground and tell these stories.”
Ellana Lee, SVP and Global Head of Features Content, CNN International, added: “Victoria will be a fantastic addition to Connecting Africa bringing a wealth of expertise and storytelling experience from across the continent. Her appointment speaks to CNN’s commitment to telling African stories from an African perspective and our investment in the Connecting Africa franchise.”
Connecting Africa is part of a continuing partnership between CNN International Commercial (CNNIC) and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
