The course will highlight the importance of swift responses and exclusive content in delivering impactful coverage of emotionally charged conflict issues.
Viory, the video news agency dedicated to amplifying diverse perspectives from the Global South, has announced its latest initiative: a comprehensive intensive training course focused on the intricacies of reporting from conflict zones. Titled “Challenges in Verification and Newsgathering in a War Zone (Palestine as a Case Study),” this course is slated to be delivered to the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), offering media professionals an opportunity to gain valuable insights and strategies for reporting from conflict zones while ensuring accurate and ethical coverage of sensitive issues.
The intensive training course will delve into Viory’s extensive coverage of the Gaza war, shedding light on the challenges encountered by its team during newsgathering and content verification in a war zone. It will illustrate the importance of swift response times and exclusive content generation in delivering impactful stories that resonate with audiences, even amidst emotionally charged and challenging circumstances synonymous with conflict.
Through this course, Viory aims to explore incidents related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, providing assistance to both member and non-member news agencies, as well as media professionals in OIC countries. Key topics include crew safety, techniques for verifying and validating content authenticity in conflict zones, the impact of citizen journalism, and the role of user-generated content (UGC) during conflict situations. The training will also address the psychological and physical strain experienced by journalist teams working in high-pressure, high-stress environments like the battlefield.
Speaking about the initiative, Jose Jimenez, Head of Output, Viory, said: “Sharing expertise across the industry is crucial for improving collaboration with international colleagues and raising standards. Viory is privileged to be at the forefront of many of the world’s breaking news events, and the expertise gained by our team is invaluable. We are grateful for the opportunity to share these learnings and continue our collaboration with UNA.”
Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami, Acting Director-General of the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), added: “The knowledge and experience brought by the Viory team are invaluable. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with them to ensure that our members, as well as other media professionals from OIC countries, can benefit and learn from their frontline experience in covering some of the biggest news stories unfolding today.”
