Running from September 21 until December 25, the Fall 2022 programme presents 35+ talks, workshops and special events as well as a three-day professional development course led by Greener Screens on creating films sustainably.
Warehouse421, Abu Dhabi’s home-grown arts and design centre, has announced its fall 2022 programme, A Season for Regrounding, which features two major exhibitions and an extensive public programme focusing on creative and communal approaches to reconnecting with the environment.
The programme also invites filmmakers and scriptwriters to join its three-day professional development course that focuses on how to create films sustainably.
Greener Screens Writing Lab addresses questions around making climate action and environmentalism a part of the production process, from scriptwriting to cinematography.
Starting a scientific crash course on climate change, the participants will receive a solid background on the science of the environmental crisis. Next, they will apply their combined knowledge and creativity through a screenwriting workshop, young filmmakers and writers will be coached through the dos and don’ts of writing for climate action on the screen, through writing workshops, constructive dialogue, and analyzing excerpts of “green” films. Finally, filmmakers will learn how to pitch and market their ideas too and compete with their screenplays for a chance to pitch to industry executives in the UAE.
The workshop will also be accompanied by a technical aspect of sustainable film production led by Greener Screens, a Masdar-based film production company.
Greener Script Writers’ Lab is an opportunity for all writers, directors, and creative producers who want to explore how to authentically and creatively weave environmental awareness into filmmaking, affecting a positive change.
Other highlights from the programme include a detailed introduction to climate psychology, the second iteration of the exhibition On Foraging: Food Knowledge and Environmental Imaginaries in The UAE’s Landscape, which was first presented at the United Arab Emirates Pavilion in Expo 2020, and additional workshops, symposia and special events that are a mindful exploration of creative and communal approaches to thinking about climate action.
For the first time at Warehouse421, tactile books were also developed for the exhibition by the Warehouse421 Education Department featuring translation in English, Arabic and Braille. The books are designed for children and People of Determination with visual impairments to experience the exhibition in an accessible and immersive way.
