Levy is currently an Advisory Director at General Atlantic and previously served as General Atlantic’s Co-President and Chairman of Global Technology.
Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has announced plans to appoint Anton Levy, former head of technology at private-equity firm General Atlantic, as an independent director on its board.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Levy’s appointment follows pressure from hedge fund Sessa Capital, which holds approximately a 1% stake in WBD.
Levy’s addition comes after WBD appointed two independent directors in January: SoFi CEO Anthony Noto and Joey Levin, chairman of Angi and former CEO of IAC.
Samuel Di Piazza Jr., chairman of the WBD board, expressed appreciation for shareholder engagement, specifically acknowledging John Petry, managing member of Sessa Capital, for his contributions. Di Piazza stated that Levy’s appointment aligns with WBD’s commitment to enhancing the board with industry experts known for driving value creation. “We look forward to working with Anton as we continue overseeing the execution of Warner Bros. Discovery’s strategy to unlock value for shareholders,” he said.
Levy, now an advisory director at General Atlantic after stepping down in January 2025 as co-president and chairman of global technology, has extensive investment experience. WBD highlighted his role in leading General Atlantic’s major investments in companies like Airbnb, Alibaba Group, Crowdstrike, Facebook, Klarna, Mercado Libre, Slack, Snapchat, Squarespace, and Uber.
WBD President and CEO David Zaslav emphasized the urgency in improving the company’s performance amid industry shifts. “We are confident that Anton will bring valuable insights as we continue taking steps to drive long-term shareholder value,” he said.
For his board service in 2025, Levy will receive $240,000 in stock retainers and $105,000 in cash retainers, according to an SEC filing from WBD.
Levy began his career at General Atlantic in 1998. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
