Warner Bros.’ film division has appointed Ted Lim, a former Amazon MGM Studios executive, as its new chief business officer. Lim, who previously served as head of global strategy and business development at MGM, will step into the newly created role this week, reporting directly to Motion Picture Group co-chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
Lim brings extensive experience in film strategy, having joined MGM in 2018 from Participant Media, where he focused on investments and acquisitions as senior vice president of strategy and business development. Earlier in his career, he was part of Disney’s corporate strategy and business development team.
During his tenure at Amazon, Lim played a key role in shaping the company’s film strategy, spearheading the expansion of its theatrical slate. He oversaw major upcoming projects, including The Accountant 2, Project Hail Mary, Masters of the Universe and The Thomas Crown Affair, while also executing distribution plans for recent releases such as Creed III, Challengers, The Beekeeper and American Fiction.
De Luca and Abdy highlighted Lim’s contributions, noting his involvement in securing global theatrical windows for Red One and Air and managing Amazon’s international theatrical distribution partnership with Warner Bros. Notably, Red One, starring Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson, became one of the most-streamed films of the year, according to Nielsen’s 2024 rankings, following its theatrical debut on November 15. Warner Bros. handled its international distribution.
