In a groundbreaking move, Warner Bros. is looking to provide video rentals on Facebook through the official web sites of select movies. Unfortunately, the service will only be available to US residents.
Facebook users can visit the official page of specific movies, click the “watch” icon and pay US $3 to watch the movie. The movie is streamed through a Facebook application.
Those who would like to rent a movie can replay it as many times as they like for 48 hours.
“Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts,” said Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, in a statement.
A small selection of films will be available for rent soon although a list was not available at the time of going to press.
